We have a new guestbook! Jon managed to salvage all the previous entries (thanks, Jon!), but we needed to change to a new and more secure guestbook because we were being swamped with spam! I hope you'll find it easy to use, and we invite you to leave us a note!

NATA Meeting

We sure accomplished a lot at our meeting this evening! Thank you to everyone for coming, and for being willing to discuss some hard questions!
Welcome to Eric and Lorraine Dane, who attended their first meeting tonight - we're thrilled to have your involvement!
Carla will have the minutes ready shortly, and we'll get them out to our members, but here are some highlights.
Our membership application and our application for certificate of heritage were approved tonight, and will be sent out to all interested parties immediately. They'll also be available online. Our focus this year will be on improving the visibility of the Tarpan; we plan to have Tarpans in parades and in shows throughout the season. Watch the web site for information on where you can meet a Tarpan; and if you are a Tarpan owner, let us know where you'll be showing so we can tell everyone!
There was a lot of discussion on the Breed Recognition project; before we can apply for status, we need to find out if the breed is officially recognised in Germany. We also need to spend both time and money to get DNA work done on as many Tarpans as possible. More information on that will be available when Gus Cothran is settled in his new office at Texas A&M and is available to talk about it.
Lynda

The local members of the NATA Executive are preparing for a meeting this Sunday (March 19, 2006), at which we hope to address a number of big issues. On the agenda are approval of the new membership forms and applications for registration, the beginning of a DNA project aimed at future breed recognition, and a plan for the continued conservation of the breed. The agenda, and the meeting results, will be posted on the site, and we welcome any comments you might have.

response to Alberta Express Article

Recently an article was published in the Alberta Express which included a note (and a photo!) about the Tarpan! In response to the article, Ed & Lynn received a phone call from a rancher in Southern Alberta who was excited to tell us that he had been breeding Tarpans for 30 years! Well, further discussion with him revealed that he was actually breeding Quarter Horses with primitive dun coloration, but it was still a fascinating conversation!
